5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a source for unwaxed floss., January 3, 2007

I'm a real fanatic about dental care and despite having close contacts, I believe no floss works as well as unwaxed. It's getting impossible to find unwaxed dental floss anymore. I work for J&J and they don't even carry it in the employee store. A google search led me here. A great price and fast delivery. And J&J floss is the best around.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my preferred floss, June 23, 2008
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have used several different "Reach" brand floss products. I bought this particular floss 6 pack in an attempt to be economical, but I was disappointed. This particular floss frays easier than a previous floss in the same Reach brand and shape container that I earlier purchased. Regretfully I cannot find the name of that product online (I hope it was a different product...) Admittedly this particular Reach floss is at least stronger and frays less easily than cheap generic store-brand floss.

If I am going to use a thin floss, I want one that is strong and doesn't fray when used in tight spaces between teeth. Otherwise I would prefer non-thin floss varieties. I liked Reach's "Gentle Gum Care" woven floss or "Dentotape". Both seem more effective at getting at stuff stuck between teeth at or slightly below the gum line. (Woven does fray but the extra abrasiveness of the weave makes up for that.) They are both worth the slight extra cost IMHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars dental floss, January 9, 2007

I always prefer unwaxed floss, as I find that it traps food better than the waxed version. Not for those who have such tightly spaced teeth that they have trouble getting floss in-between them (any floss would then shred, and especially unwaxed). This multi-pack is a great value!

3.0 out of 5 stars tastes like used plastic, October 19, 2009

...but other than that, and the fact that it really obstructs the faucet, it's a pretty cool little tool, and I'm still using it when I can't get to the better irrigator in the other bathroom, though I grumble about the awkwardness of the part that hangs down from the faucet, and about the off taste of the water that comes through the irrigator. My spouse won't use it for that reason. I think they must've manufactured it using recycled plastic, and that doesn't seem like a good idea for something that goes into your mouth. It tastes like old detergent bottles and, frankly, a bit like garbage. I have to rinse my mouth out a lot after using it. I wish they'd make it with good quality materials and then it'd be winner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Loved the unit then it began to leak, October 16, 2009

It seemed like a great device. I liked that I could control the force of the water pressure. I used it for about 6 weeks then the unit that the tip attaches to began to leak at the seams. It was a small leak at first then the more I used it the worse it got with water spraying all over and no longer having pressure in the tip. I would buy one again if I could return this one and could be assured it wasn't an ongoing problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too expensive given the quality, September 23, 2009

With a bit of practice, the Platypus is fairly easy to use for people with braces. But similar to other reviewers, I found that this product shreds easily. I would need to use 2 each time I floss. Given the cost, I found that I'm much happier using Super Floss instead.

Unlike the other poster, I love this product and it works VERY well on my bottom teeth. I suppose if your teeth are unusually close together than it may not work for you. I am able to use each flosser 3-5 times before the floss breaks, so a 25 pack will last me over three months. The value in this product can not be stated by cost per unit, for me the value is in the time saved every day. It is tedious and time consuming to floss braces with standard threaded floss, over ten minutes every night, now I can floss in under two minutes!!! I am a busy mom and this product is worth it's weight in gold!!!!

Being 39 and having braces for the SECOND TIME, I forgot how difficult and time consuming it is to floss your teeth. I hoped that I would be with those who love this product. Unfortunately, I'm not. While the design is great and I can fit the front of the flosser between my teeth and wire, the quality of the floss is what is this products biggest fault. It is cheap and shreds. I'm lucky to get one use out of it. If only the floss was a better quality and uses more a glide floss it would be 100% better and very usable. Guess I'll try the Super Floss everyone is recommending.
